Rebelle With a Cause:
Tracie Hunter
Interview By: Kevin Smith
Punk Globe:
What drives Tracie to want to be on stage?
Tracie Hunter:
Probably insecurity in the beginning, funnily enough… but now, well… there’s nothing quite like being up there when everything’s going right, it’s just supremely satisfying….kinda hard to explain. Its the best feeling though…. As I’ve got older I worry less about what everybody else is thinking, in fact I don’t worry at all….. so I just have a good time.
Punk Globe:
When did you decide you wanted to be a musician?
Tracie Hunter:
Early teens probably, I was raised in music so I guess it was a natural progression.
Punk Globe:
Tell us what you are currently working on?
Tracie Hunter:
My most recent project is The Rebelles (www.rebellesmusic.com) It’s myself, Elizabeth Westwood and Phoebe White, we’re re-arranging punk and early 70’s songs and doing 3 part harmonies, its a lot of fun and we just recorded ‘Should I stay’ with Mick Jones producing and playing on it, he’s also in the video… last week we recorded ‘Hanging on the telephone’ with Clem Burke, James Stevenson and Glen Matlock…. and on it goes…. and we love it.
Punk Globe:
Ok! Has it been easy for you being in the Rock & Roll world?
Tracie Hunter:
Easy? No…. its been a hard slog physically, emotionally & financially…. I wouldn’t change a thing ;)
Punk Globe:
How do you feel about the myth of Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll?
Tracie Hunter:
Drugs bore me and always did, I never got into that myself …. but its not really a myth is it, everything is more accessible in showbiz, especially on the way up… creative people are often such sensitive souls that distraction from reality can be very attractive… I like the other two though .
Punk Globe:
Could you tell us one thing you really love about your home?
Tracie Hunter:
My garden, its summer here and all the flowers are in bloom, I love just sitting out there amongst them….. I also love my massive super king bed!! I spend so much time in it I figure it has to be the best ;)
Punk Globe:
What did you do to rock your world when you were 21?
Tracie Hunter:
Travel, I had such wanderlust….. backpacked around USA and Europe many times…...
Punk Globe:
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Tracie Hunter:
I'm very much living in the now …. I don’t even see myself tomorrow ….
Punk Globe:
How do you feel about vinyl making a comeback?
Tracie Hunter:
I love records, I have a few here and somehow they represent an amazing time in Music, so yes….. I’m all for it.
Punk Globe:
What was the last book you read?
Tracie Hunter:
The Man who hated walking by Overend Watts. Bass player in Mott The Hoople. A thoroughly unique character, whom I adore.
Punk Globe:
If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
Tracie Hunter:
I’m hoping for a mass shift in consciousness…. George Carlin has it right... “We're so self-important. So arrogant. Everybody's going to save something now. Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save the snails and the supreme arrogance? Save the planet! Are these people kidding? Save the planet? We don't even know how to take care of ourselves; we haven't learned how to care for one another. We're gonna save the fuckin' planet? . . . And, by the way, there's nothing wrong with the planet in the first place. The planet is fine. The people are fucked! Compared with the people, the planet is doin' great. It's been here over four billion years . . . The planet isn't goin' anywhere, folks. We are! We're goin' away. Pack your shit, we're goin' away. And we won't leave much of a trace. Thank God for that. Nothing left but a little Styrofoam. The planet will be here, and we'll be gone. Another failed mutation; another closed-end biological mistake.”
