with Peter McCartney
of 4PM/4 Past Midnight
Interview By: Lisa/PunkrPrincess

4 Past Midnight I have known through social media for quit a while I have always liked Peter and his music he has always been great support including being a part of PP Promo/Whatever68 compilations, they have played Rebellion Festival and are on the bill again this year so if you are going be sure to check them out and go follow them on social media so you don't miss anything they do.

Punk Globe: Hi and thanks for chatting with us can you give us a little band history?

Peter: Yeassss Sister , The Year was 1989 when the band first started September i think to be precise when 4  guys got together to make music of a Punk nature , Through the years and after  many line up changes , Many album and single releases , We are still here , But it hasn't been a smooth road , We have endured a lot of ups and downs as a band , missed out on a lot of opportunity's due to members coming and going which held us back a lot over the years among other things But I have kept the band going hook or by crook as they band is my life ,my passion if you will , without it i would feel lost somewhat .

Punk Globe: When and why did you start playing?

Peter: I think it was pretty natural for me , As a little kid i think i knew was going to be in a band , I fell in love with music especially the Drums , As the years past and i got older my determination increased and by the time i reached my late teens i knew i had to start a band of my own , I did however not start my first band F1 11S until around 86/87 , After only a few months i joined Paisley Punk Band OUT SWITCH , That was my first time playing in a proper band  on Drums , That lasted around a year , And then in 1989 I started 4 PAST MIDNIGHT with my friend Archie Ray who came up with the bands name. and it just went from there

Punk Globe: Is your family musical?

Peter: No none of my family played instruments or anything musical just me

Punk Globe: Describe your first instrument. Other instruments

Peter: My first Drum kit was a Tama 5 piece kit from a  local music shop My mum and dad paid for it for me and i paid them back at , I had a guitar for a while but couldn't play very well so I gave it up.

Punk Globe: Who are your favorite unsigned musicians? Groups? Albums?

Peter: Hateful a local band who are good friends of mine have a great sound early clash/slf , Razorblade Smile , The Red Eyes , The Disturbed , The Dreggs , to name a few , Albums ..hmmmmm Hateful have some good material out there kilbowie road lp and Diamond Among The Coal is my favorites , The Red Eyes Man And Boy lp is also a good listen ....There are so many i could be here all day

Punk Globe: How often and for how long do you practice?

Peter: We only practice once a week Sunday for 3/6 Hours due to job commitments

Punk Globe: Tell us of a memorable band moment.

Peter: I would say personally when we released our last album Battle Scars & Broken Hearts such a great album i am very proud of it .

Punk Globe: Describe your local music scene

Peter: The Local scene is vibrant so many different styles of bands around.but not enough people come out to support them which is a shame , but it is just how things are ..Us the small bands just carry on regardless But all in all the local scene is pretty good

Punk Globe: What do you feel could be done by promoters and venues to bring more people to shows and/or improve the music scene?

Peter: I feel a lot more advertising is needed , To many venues rely on fb twitter  Instagram to promote events , I feel old school style promoting is still needed, flyers, posters etc ..This relying on fb etc to promote a show in my opinion is not the way to go about it . As for people coming to shows ...its a really hard task these days especially for small venues and small shows people are to fixated on the big band scene ...there are those who support small shows but only a small amount , but I feel it will never change you cant force  people to attend a show at a pub close by if they don't want to .

Punk Globe: Who are some of the bands you like to jam/play shows with?

Peter: We have played with a lot of big bands ...exploited , vice squad , angelic upstarts , to name a few

Punk Globe: Where is your favorite place to check out local acts?

Peter: Venues such as Glasgow Audio , Ivory Blacks , Broadcast is venues i would focus on .

Punk Globe: What/who inspires you?

Peter: A lot of things musically inspires me , I am an all rounder when it comes to music I listen to all different types I don't just concentrate of Punk music ..I feel when coming up with new ideas you have to be open to other things musically and not be focused on just one style etc ....punk wise id say bands like ramones , no use for a name especially inspire me , but also artists like Neil Diamond , Martina Mcbride , i take ideas from all things i feel its the only way to come up with  the best you can when it comes to music ...4past midnight has never been about sticking to a certain format , We just play what we feel regardless of the style , If we like it we will play it that is basically our way of doing things ..I have even had a lot  of inspiration from heavy metal , even pop music ...like I said you have to open your ears to everything to appreciate music in general I feel.

Punk Globe: If you could play a show anywhere in the world where and who would it be with?

Peter:Well the answer to that is easy ..No use for a name and probably USA but as it will never happen as the band no longer exists but that would have been my choice

Punk Globe: Other then music do you have any other hobbies?

Peter: Yes ...I am also a pigeon fancier have been for over 35 years , Also I love collecting LP records.

Punk Globe: Describe your show visually and musically

Peter: Ahhhh.. Good question , Well since our Reinvention over a year ago the band has changed a lot ..I now have a Condeeeeetion Of Reinvention Brilliance , I have totally reinvented myself and the band also ...I dress in a very flamboyant manner and my accent has changed , I like to say things like Wonderful,Delightful,Intoxicating, After I was Deleted at a wwe house show by Woken Matt Hardy , My vessel has now become More , I felt something happening to me and the Gods of brilliance spoke to me in my dreams telling me I must Reinvent I must reinvent 4 Past Midnight , So after I had become more I knew what I had to do,So i set out to find my first new garments of Brilliance for my Reinvention , After watching reruns of Vice of Miami ...and listening to my beloved Boys of the Backstreet ...it came to me like a Premoneeeeeetion ..Yes ...I  had to become the man in white , so after much searching on the on the site that is Ebay I found just what i was looking for .....Once the garments arrived by pony post i tried them on and thought yeassss Delightful , but something was missing ...I needed  Glasses Of Sun to protect my eyes from the lights of stage and the final touches of my Silver scarf of Brilliance and my shoes of white ...I was then ready ....Since then I have been continuing to Reinvent myself as the months go by ....Some people hate it  some people love it , But what cant be denied is we are different and ..we have become far more entertaining ...The Rock of Punk scene needs some flamboyancy i think and some fun and entertainment

Punk Globe: What advice would you give a new band starting out?

Peter: Promote yourselves hard work on good music spend hours working on your material until you are  satisfied you have produced something worthy

Punk Globe: Any upcoming events you want us to know about?

Peter: All our upcoming events are on our official facebook page 4 past midnight , We have the Festival  That is Rebellious coming up July 5th Arena Stage ....This is the scene for our Ultimate Deletion!!
