Director Al Adamson truly earned his status as a Hollywood B-movie legend with his always-interesting collection of films. He is in the same league as Ted V. Mikels as far as making a large number of films covering several genres on micro-budgets. And like many filmmakers, especially ones in low budget circles, he had regular cast and crewmembers on hand for several films. A colorful handful of them are interviewed in Blood And Flesh, a highly enjoyable tribute to Adamson. Of course, his grisly demise makes for great drama but other aspects of the man’s life are covered with great care. Cast and crew look back with humor at his thrifty style of econo-filmmaking including examples of crewmembers appearing in small roles. They speak of his habit of giving novices a chance and a crash course in hit-and-run creativity. Several Adamson alumni went on to successful Hollywood careers. But the endearing part is his romance and marriage with his female lead Regina Carrol. She comes off as incredibly loveable and Al seemed forever smitten with her. They made a family together with their dogs and had a rare successful Hollywood marriage. Even though Al and Regina deserved better demises, Al’s story is handled here with respect and is uplifting as well as unnerving.

Beyond Fest hosted several cast and crewmembers who appear in the film including Jon “Bud” Cardos, Marilyn Joi and, incredibly Zandor Vorkov from Adamson’s masterpiece Dracula Vs. Frankenstein. It was genuinely touching hearing their praise for Al and Regina as well. And it was truly fantastic watching the huge amount of love for Zandor Vorkov (not his real name). Fans begging for pictures and autographs surrounded him, treating him like a rock star. The excellent documentary was followed by a screening of Dracula Vs. Frankenstein with fans sitting in the aisles of the packed Spielberg Theatre, renamed the Severin Theatre for the night in honor of the documentary’s producer.
