Show Review By: Gabriel Johns

I had this band, Broken Baby, on my radar for quite sometime ever since I heard their song “It’s My Show” on Rodney On The Rock. It’s been well over a year and Rodney still spins it on his Sirius XM Ch.21 show. I always get a little rush when I hear it! I just start moving. I’ve seen Broken Baby were playing some shows here and there so I decided I must check them out! I was curious to see if they could pull off that studio sound of theirs live. I noticed they were playing a show at the old Cafe Nela which is now Permanent Records Roadhouse. Well, let me tell you, they did not disappoint! From Amber Bollinger’s little sinewy body to that excellent voice of hers, with great dance moves along with her being quite comfortable with her crowd. She had this crowded club in the palm of her hand! AND they opened up with “It’s My Show” (and it certainly was). She knew how to talk to and keep the crowd entertained. The band was an excellent unit much along the lines of Talking Heads with much more urgency behind them. I was really impressed with Max Diaz, the bass player and Nick Gaffaney, the drummer. Love it when the two just keep it grooving, moving us into a sweaty frenzy. And the crowd really appreciated that backbone beat that kept their young asses moving! I absolutely loved Alex Dezen’s guitar riffs, the pedals he used for his different sounds that bounced and merged perfectly with the rhythm section. Such a big sound coming from a superb four piece performance! Man, I hope these guys get the recognition they deserve. I hope they’re already receiving it. You don’t, or should I say “I” don’t come across such tight, excellent performers working together so well. Go see them when they hit your town, check them out on YouTube or on Little Stevens Underground Garage Ch. 21. You’re gonna love them. FUN!!!!
