Sweden's Vigilantes have been making melodic and classic hardcore
punk music since 1999, and, with "I Wanna" they make a major move
towards global recognition.
They have done two European tours, and released a debut album,
"Empty
Bottles & Broken Hearts," in 2003, to generally positive, if not
rave reviews.
Not bad for a band from Skoghall, a village on Hammer island in Lake
Vänern that hosts several of Sweden's largest paper and chemical
companies.
Along with Johnny Thunders, Sylvain Sylvain,
Stiv Bators, The Lurkers, Adicts, Alternative TV and others, they
were featured on the Ramones tribute release "TODOS SOMOS RAMONES (Rockaway
Records)," where The Vigilantes do
a version of the song "Somebody Like Me." The Vigilantes' similarity
to the Ramones and the New York Dolls is easy to see.
Like they sing in "Here We Go," "we're not an illusion," so they're
not going to go away. The truth is, they have nowhere to go but up.
