Cowards Sing At Night
Anna Is A Stool Pigeon
100 Years Of War
Tom Gabel the front man of Against Me has released Heart Burns EP (October 2008). A collection of songs written and recorded between touring with Against Me. Heart Burns is inspired by American politics, modern cultural issues and an environmental activist being imprisoned. Tom Gabel finds his acoustic/folk/rock roots once again with Heart Burns.
The opener Random Hearts features some sweet rockin melodies, with an infectious chorus, it is the odd sounding song on the EP completely different from the rest of the tunes. "Random hearts in a cruel cruel world".
Conceptual Paths introduces the feel of this Ep with Tom's acoustic guitar and passionate vocals.
"I am ready for the future, I am ready for what happens next".
Cowards Sing At Night is a song about war and the harshness and grief it leaves behind. "Come back home from Vietnam".
Amputations a song focusing on the youth and the governments views on war raising the question
"What kind of future are you promising us?"
Anna Is A Stool Pigeon a brilliant little tune, lyrics well written and story told beautifully, a worthy folk/rock song about an environmental activist and a FBI Informant. "She's just a fucking snitch".
Harsh Realms has a sweet melodic tune that comes from the heart. "Yeah it's harsh realm, Don't abandoned me".
100 Years Of War builds from the start, with the beat reminding you of the sound of soldiers marching, the Chorus bursts with passion and there are short musical explosions reminding you of land mines exploding. "These are once in a lifetime offence."
Heart Burns Ep is a brilliant folk/rock/protest Ep, it maybe not to everyone's liking but anyone who enjoys folk rock will enjoy this. Great to see an artist step back into his roots.
