Tim Burgess: HELLO.
Punk Globe: So let's get get started on your music. You were with your band the Charlatans U.K for how long?
Tim Burgess: OH! I AM STILL WITH THE CHARLATANS
Punk Globe: And how many albums do you guys have released, I know it's quite a few.
Tim Burgess: IT IS TEN STUDIO ALBUMS SO FAR!
Punk Globe: Out of those albums "Tellin' Stories" seemed to get more commercial attention, which album is your personal favorite?
Tim Burgess: MY FAVOURITES ARE "SOME FRIENDLY," "TELLIN' STORIES', AND THE LATEST -- "YOU CROSS MY PATH."
Punk Globe: When did you decide to do the solo thing?
Tim Burgess: I DID A
SOLO ALBUM "I BELIEVE" IN 2003, SINCE THEN I HAVE COLLABORATED WITH
OTHER ARTISTS (CHEMICAL BROTHERS/FREEBASS(PETER HOOK FROM NEW
ORDER)/JOAQUIN PHEONIX/CROOKERS); PRODUCED UP AND COMING BANDS "THE
HATCHAM SOCIAL" AS WELL AS RECORDING WITH THE CHARLATANS.
Punk Globe: Is there anyone from the Charlatans U.K that is featured on the CD?
Tim Burgess: NO, BUT I CO-WROTE A SONG WITH MARK COLLINS (GUITAR) AND MY WIFE, MICHELLE THIRD
Punk Globe: Was it scary doing gigs solo for the first time?
Tim Burgess: YES, BUT I LIKE TO BE SCARED ONCE IN A WHILE.
Punk Globe: You have a very good stage presence, who inspired you?
Tim Burgess: IAN CURTIS, IGGY POP, JAGGER.
Punk Globe: Back in the Brit pop days,who was YOUR favorite band out of all of them?
Tim Burgess: I REALLY LIKE BLUR.
Punk Globe: I was huge into Pulp, like you they never crossed over very much like Blur or Oasis. Any thoughts on that?
Tim Burgess: I THINK ME AND JARVIS COCKER ARE QUITE SIMILAR IN A LOT OF WAYS -- WE ARE TOO WEIRD FOR MAINSTREAM AMERICA.
Punk Globe: So tell me a little about the solo recording process.
Tim Burgess: I JUST DO IT MYSELF AS OPPOSED TO WORKING OUT SONGS WITH FOUR OTHER MEMBERS
Punk Globe: What song(s) would you recommend to Punk Globe readers to check out?
Tim Burgess: I REALLY
THINK "WE ALL NEED LOVE" STILL STANDS UP TODAY AS DOES "OH! MY
CORAZON"...."I BELIEVE IN THE SPIRIT" IS ALSO PRETTY GOOD.
Punk Globe: What did you think of the whole Blur vs. Oasis scandal?
Tim Burgess: I THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD T.V.
Punk Globe: What the best part of going solo for you,Tim?
Tim Burgess: I LIKE TO WORK ON MY OWN NOW AND AGAIN.
Punk Globe: Any favorite lyrics on your album that you'd like to share?
Tim Burgess: THEY ARE ALL WORTH READING X.
Punk Globe: Where is your favorite place to tour?
Tim Burgess: THIS YEAR WITH THE CHARLATANS WE HAVE TOURED MAINLAND EUROPE QUITE A LOT -- GERMANY, FRANCE, SWITZERLAND.
I REALLY ENJOYED PLAYING THERE THIS YEAR
Punk Globe: So you moved to LA, how did that come about?
Tim Burgess: I FELT
VERY INSPIRED BY THE CITY AND WANTED TO WRITE THERE, I HUNG OUT FOR A
MONTH, MET A WOMAN ,GOT MARRIED, IT KINDA BECAME MY DESTINY/REALITY/DREAM
ALL IN ONE
Punk Globe: I ask to hang out with you. What do we do?
Tim Burgess: BE VERY COOL.
Punk Globe: Whats something really unusual about you?
Tim Burgess: EVERYTHING ABOUT ME IS UNUSUAL.
Punk Globe: Any weird fan stories?
Tim Burgess: ONCE...
A FAN GOT ONSTAGE AT A SOUNDCHECK IN LONDON AND TOLD ME SHE WAS MY
WIFE, SHE WAS ON DRUGS BUT SHE TOLD A CONVINCING STORY...I ALMOST
BELIEVED HER MYSELF EVEN THOUGH I HAD NEVER SEEN HER BEFORE IN MY LIFE.
Punk Globe: So are the Charlatans over or on hiatus?
Tim Burgess: WE ARE FINISHED FOR THIS YEAR.
Punk Globe: Planning on anymore solo adventures?
Tim Burgess: YES I WILL WRITE A RECORD IN 2009.
Punk Globe: Any rituals you do before a gig?
Tim Burgess: I RUN ON THE SPOT -- I IMAGINE I AM SAILOR FROM THE FILM "WILD AT HEART" DANCING IN THE DESERT.
Punk Globe: If you weren't in the music biz, what would you be doing?
Tim Burgess: I WOULD STILL BE ME.
Punk Globe: So tell me a bit about having to change your name from the Charlatans to the Charlatans U.K?
Tim Burgess: I WANTED TO BE CALLED CHARLATANS ENGLAND, BUT THE REST OF THE BAND PREFERRED U.K. I THINK BOTH ARE SHIT BUT HEY!
Punk Globe: Have you even listened to the other "Charlatans band?"
Tim Burgess: YES I HAVE!
Punk Globe: Vocally what's a challenge for you?
Tim Burgess: GETTING WHAT I CONSIDER TO BE THE RIGHT 'FEEL.'
Punk Globe: Who are your favorite singers?
Tim Burgess: I REALLY LIKE BERNARD SUMNER FROM NEW ORDER. I LOVE GRAM PARSONS, POP STAPLES ,ROBERT SMITH, EDWYN COLLINS, CURTIS MAYFIELD.
Punk Globe: As a kid did you KNOW this is what you wanted to do as a career, or did you have another dream?
Tim Burgess: I HAD A FEELING BUT IT WAS NOT UNTIL I DID TWO RECORDS WITH THE CHARLATANS THEN I KNEW THIS IS WHAT I WANTED.
Punk Globe: What's a huge fear of yours?
Tim Burgess: LOOK! ... I DON'T WANT EVERYONE TO LIKE MY MUSIC! ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW WHAT GOOD MUSIC IS.
Punk Globe: What are some interesting facts you can tell us about this solo album of yours?
Tim Burgess: MY
FIRST SOLO ALBUM WAS KINDA A TEST TO SEE IF I COULD ACTUALLY DO IT..THE
NEXT ONE I DO WILL BE AMBITIOUS..IN MY HEAD IT IS A FILM.
Punk Globe: You buy me a birthday present, what would it be?
Tim Burgess: I DON'T KNOW YOU - SO I HAVE NO IDEA.
