South East garage-punk group Brown Kid has a few tricks up their sleeve. Blending acoustic jams with punk rock sentiment, this isn’t just a band, it’s a group of guys having fun and you can hear that in their music. Forming in 2003, the trio have been playing and recording ever since. Their second album “The Unknown” stays true to what they call their “raw” sound, a cross between Sublime and Violent Femmes. With minimal instrumentation on songs like “Tongue Lashing”, front man and native Peruvian Eduardo Leon humors us with his biting lyrics. “Mexican Flag” is a stand out with its traditional horn intro and trot-like beat, and they quicken the pace with “Fortune Cookie”. Their albums are on Itunes and you can listen for free at www.reverbnation.com/brownkid0.
