STIG STENCH
Tells All About The
STENCH NATION KULT
By: Ginger Coyote
tig Stench has been on the Texas punk scene for quite a few years.. He has the type of personality that just gravitates you towards him.. Very outgoing and real. But most of all a really kind nice respectful human being.... It was to no ones surprise that he started doing his very own radio show in 2010.. I was recently a guest on his kick ass show .. What was meant to be about an hour show turned into almost three hours... It was a total gas and loads of fun.. I strongly suggest that anyone who is anything does his show... Stig Rawks!
Punk Globe:
Thanks so much for the interview Stig.. Can you give the readers some background on yourself?
STIG STENCH:
Well I was born in Alexandria Louisiana, and my family reconfigured and moved to Ft Worth Texas with my Uncle Ronnie (Who played Piano and Organ with Blood Rock, Head East and other Texas Hard Rock bands) and Grandmother when I remember seeing Kiss on the Paul Lynde Halloween Special and I was hooked on anything that was intense musically. The other kids where playing baseball, watching Banana Splits, I was hanging out with my Uncle Ronnie, fishing, listening to his records and road stories. My Mom was a outspoken Civil Rights Marching Hippie. So I learned at a early age about being outspoken about what I believe. I served in the United States Marine Corps in 1985 and was Stationed in San Onofre (Camp Pendleton, CA). I used to go on weekend leave to LA/Hollywood/Long Beach and catch shows. One Club in particular was The SCREAM where I first met the delectable Lisafer, I'll get into that later! *Wink!* At a early age I was exposed to Country, Blues and Zydeco Music. But like Darby Crash used to say "Everything comes to a full circle" and music all comes to a full circle. It is the heart, truth and passion of the Artist, Listeners and the Human Spirit of creativity and I have carried this in whatever I have done. I always said "Hank Williams Sr, Little Richard, Robert Johnson and Jerry Lee Lewis carried the Punk Rock Spirit before anyone knew what it was!"
Punk Globe:
At what age did you realize that you were into punk rock?
STIG STENCH:
Fast forward to 1977 when I was reading in CREEM Magazine about this movement called "Punk Rock." I was at my Dad's house when I saw The SeX PiStOLs on the TV and I knew something in me had changed forever. I remember seeing "Rock-N-Roll High School" and music became more tangible and down to earth to me because of The Ramones. I ended up buying a copy of "Nervous Breakdown" from Black Flag and the Germs "G.I" in 1980 and my senses became sharper and discovered that attitude can be a weapon if wielded right. In 1981-82, I got a copy of records from The Dead Kennedys, MDC, The DICKS and FEAR, and I learned that with your words you can either build up and tear down, and no matter how much "The Establishment" attempts to control you and grind you down, if you stay focused and true to yourself, "they" cannot or ever win. I realized I was Punk Rock when I became agitated when people tried to label me.
Punk Globe:
When did you move to Austin?
STIG STENCH:
I visited Austin a few times in the early 80's for shows, etc, but I actually moved to Austin in early 1989.
Punk Globe:
During your interview with me on Stench Radio you mentioned that you had never seen Gary Floyd perform with The Dicks but have you seen him in any of his other bands...
STIG STENCH:
YES! I saw my dear ol' Uncle Gary with Sister Double Happiness at the Ritz here in Austin at SXSW 1990 I believe?
Punk Globe:
What was your first punk show?
STIG STENCH:
Black Flag 1981 at the Cuckoos Nest with my childhood friend Troy Fercho. And of course
Punk Globe:
What year did you start doing Stench Radio?
STIG STENCH:
April 21, 2010
Punk Globe:
Where can readers find Stench Radio on the Internet?
Punk Globe:
Can you tell us the hours one can hear Stench Radio?
STIG STENCH:
Every Evening but Echo , Sylvia, Daisy and I are working on making it 24-7.
Punk Globe:
Had you had any experience in broadcasting prior to starting Stench Radio?
STIG STENCH:
Yes! My first radio job was in 1983 when I was 16 with KWDX/KKAS Silsbee TX. B-O-R-I-N-G! But, it cut my teeth and got me into radio. When I moved to California in 1985, I later got into Pirate radio which I thought was more subversive than trying to get a corporate paid radio job.
Punk Globe:
Who was your very first interview?
STIG STENCH:
On StenchRadio.com? Sylvia Juncosa and Kevin Seconds (7 Seconds)
Punk Globe:
How long do you think it took you to get a following?

Punk Globe:
You were telling me that you have a lounge on your website for listeners to ask questions. Tell us about that?
STIG STENCH:
When I first started on April 21, 2010, I didn't even have my own website, I was on U Stream there was a chat room on the side and I dug the interactiveness and the listeners ability to shoot request and chat with the other listeners. I am not saying I am the first but, I know how I wanted Stench Radio to roll when at the time I was planning with Echo and Sylvia to start the website.
Punk Globe:
Do you work with anyone else on the show?

Sylvia Juncosa is my webmaster, Echo Wanderer is my tech guy and favorite Samuel L. Punk Globe:
Stig besides your work on Stench Radio you are also a single dad. Tell us about that?
STIG STENCH:
On June 2, 2008 my eyes and heart saw the most beautiful little thing that ever existed. My little Mermaid was born and I have been wrapped around her tiny finger ever since. November 4 2011 she played drums with Mario and The Hot Snakes and she has been a Tiny Punk Diva Princess ever since. I won and got full custody of her and I have been the proudest Dad ever since. I just want to make her proud. Mermaid Marie is my #1 girl and my heart and soul.
Punk Globe:
You also not long ago became involved with the lovely and very talented Lisafer who played bass with Dinah Cancer for years... Tell us about that?
STIG STENCH:
Lisa and I first met at the old SCREAM Club back in 1986 when I was still in the USMC. We reconnected and the rest is history. *LOL*
Punk Globe:
How is Lisa doing in Austin? That was a big move for her.
STIG STENCH:
She is doing great! Playing with the new lineup of Tex & The Horseheads and helping me reform The Stenches.
Punk Globe:
What does 2012 hold in store for 2012?
STIG STENCH:
Well we are about to add more shows and Net-J's to our roster as we speak! I have never been more excited, and I know that everyone will as excited and happier than I am. Our listeners are dubbed "The STENCH NATION KULT." We are a demented, sick bunch and we like it that way. *LOL* So we don't believe in barriers, labels and being told what to do. We are made of many different races, orientations and cultures. But we all believe and look to infect the WORLD with the STENCH. All of us in the STENCH NATION are passionate about the true Spirit of Punk Rock and the people who create and believe in it. So my heart and passion is to translate that onto the airwaves and inspire everyone at the sound of our voices.
Punk Globe:
Any words of advice for others who may be interested in starting an Internet Radio show?
STIG STENCH:
Be prepared to work hard, and not to be intimidated by hard times and getting skinned up and falling down a time or two. Get up and keep going. If you are not passionate about the Spirit and the people that believe in Punk Rock, don't bother. But if you do? Be prepared for the greatest ride of your life. The great far outweighs any of the struggle and bad stuff. The people you will come in contact with with be your greatest treasures in your life. I promise you that!
