7' Crossfire Summer
Ricky Rat
Review and live picture By: Michael Rys
Ricky Rat founding member of Detroit's outrageous glam punks the Trash Brats has spent a career playing and writing musical left hooks with the best em, not only with the Trash Brats, but with Kevin K,Texas Terri, the Luxury Pushers and Bootsy X and The Lovemasters and others .He has talked about doing a solo project for some time now and finally its all coming to fruition. His new record due to come out later this year called Songs In C Major Love is highly anticipated by this guy and many other fans as well. This 7' is just a teaser and a great teaser it is..The first single is called Crossfire Summer and it has that classic late 70' New York groove to it,defiantly an Andy McCoy ala early Hanoi feel to it and pop sensibilities of So Cal band The Dragons.Clean crisp and rock n effin roll, like a ice cold brew on a 95 degree day. The b-side is a cover of a Bay City Rollers tune called "Saturday" I don't know if they wrote the tune or not but they certainly made it popular. It was popular too, back in the days when I was a kid anyway reading Creem magazine at the corner drug store till they made me buy it or leave.I must confess Ricky, I'm way jealous here. I've always wanted to cover this song. Granted I wanted to a faster version than Ricky Rat does here but I'm not looking down my nose at this version. Its cool as hell, the guitar has a real Johnny Thunders vibe to it and the vocals are a blast to sing along with.
This single has certainly whetted my appetite for the soon come full length.
