Redd Kross
Researching the Blues
By: Gus Bernadicou
“Redd Kross is back and delivering their signature brand of genuine rock 'n' roll with a vengeance. On August 7, Merge Records will release Researching the Blues, the first new album from Redd Kross in 15 years.”
After doing God knows what and the occasional gig for the past 15 years, Redd Kross is back and doing the world a favor by releasing a hot, exciting, new power-pop album. The album, however, is not limited to just power-pop, it features the punk rock background that helped shape Red Cross into Redd Kross. The album starts of with the title track, “Researching the Blues” which bends in and out of Jagger-esque lisps and Iggy Pop enunciation's. “Stay Away From Downtown” kicks off with guitars and then fade into the vocals, competing for the higher end of the mix. Things turn down a notch with the poppy ballad “Dracula’s Daughter…” Pure power-pop bliss is achieved with the tune “One of the Good Ones,” it has handclaps and all! Redd Kross gets radio friendly with the tune “Hazel Eyes.” “Hazel Eyes” proves the veteran rockers aren’t out of touch with reality, and can, in a laid back way, relate to all of us.
