Paper Notes
by Mark Ingram

I read your poetry section of the site and felt this poem/song might be of relevance.  It’s my reaction to a political system that barely operates in Northern Ireland, (my country).

I am the front-man of a local band, (inside), here and we hope to record this track and a complementing video in the next few months.  Although we are not a punk band, we have strong musical ethics, and we are trying to step out of the shadow of the few bands that have made it off our shores, like:

Stiff little fingers,

The undertones, and

Therapy?

I’ll keep you posted on the progress of this.

PAPER NOTES:

V1:

Honesty will sell a thousand lies.

Creatures sifting through the publics lives.

Bleed through your nose 'cause you spoke your mind.

Let the shit parade just fall behind.

CHORUS:

They speak with passion,

and when your backs turned,

they want to see you fall back down.

V2:

Money is, for some, a second voice.

Throwing paper at a simple choice.

Bleed through your nose 'cause you gave account

Middle finger.  Exclamation point!

CHORUS:

They speak with passion,

and when your backs turned,

they want to see you fall back down.

They speak in tongues now,

so we don't know how,

they cut and paste our trust.

MIDDLE NINETEEN:

They sell...forgery

without...guarantee

Don't buy...[their] marketing

YOU are...the machine
