Interview By: Ginger Coyote

I recently got the chance to speak with Ben the guitarist / singer for Moovalya who are straight outta Phoenix... They are dropping their 7" on October 7th... They are embarking on West Coast tour starting October 7th at The Double Down in Las Vegas... If you see them playing please go check them out....

Punk Globe:
Tell the readers a bit about the band where you call home?

Ben:
Although sometimes a living hell, we call the scorching desert of Phoenix, AZ our home. We have some dedicated promoters bringing some great touring acts in, and some ripping local bands, both helping keep the scene out here thriving.

Punk Globe:
Tell us about how you came up with the band name Moovalya?

Ben:
Moovalya is the name of the river that passes through the small reservation town where we grew up. Naming the band after it was an homage to home.

Punk Globe:
Who is in the band and what do they play?

Ben:

Ben - Guitar/Vocals
Sean - Bass/Vocals
Mitch - Drums

Punk Globe:
Who are some of your influences?

Ben:
We all used to play in different sounding bands, punk, indie, and hardcore, so inspirations are all over the place as far as other bands go. We've been told we have that 90's 'epitaph/fat' sound, so not only do we take that as a huge compliment, it's understandable as it's a sound we collectively dig.

Punk Globe:
You have a new EP that is dropping on October 7th? Tell us about that?

Ben:
The new EP is called 'Kings' and will be our first vinyl pressing, so we're really excited about it. It's limited to 300 physical copies, and hand numbered on random color vinyl to add some rarity.

Punk Globe:
How many tracks are on the EP?

Ben:
There are 4 tracks total, 3 brand new songs, and 1 older song from a previous recording that was never physically released.

Punk Globe:
Did you work with a producer or is it self produced?

Ben:
Self produced. We recorded at Mind's Eye here in Phoenix with the amazing Larry Elyea as our engineer.

Punk Globe:
Are you with a label?

Ben:
No, but we are accepting offers, ha! We currently make videos, record, release our music, tour, and promote other bands via compilations under the garage label Dagger Sight Records. Check it out, tons of free punk rock: http://www.daggersight.com

Punk Globe:
You also have a new video that you are releasing . Tell us about that?

Ben:
Our most recent video is for 'Flatline' from the new EP - it's a no frills, washed out b/w video. We plan on shooting another after we get back from tour.

Punk Globe:
Who did you shoot the video with?

Ben:
We shot & edited the video ourselves.

Punk Globe:
Tell us about your tour?

Ben:
It's been 2 years since our last tour, so we're chomping at the bit to get back out on the road. Our 'DIY or DIE' tour will be featuring 9 shows throughout 5 states and a border crossing to Vancouver, BC. 3500 miles, and over 50 hours drive time in 9 days will mark our most intense tour to date, but definitely not our last.

10/7 - Las Vegas, NV - Double Down
10/8 - Salt Lake City, UT - The Dawg Pound
10/9 - Boise, ID - The Shredder
10/10 - Seattle, WA - The Funhouse
10/11 - Vancouver, BC, CANADA - Lanalou's
10/12 - Portland, OR - Twilight Cafe
10/13 - Eugene, OR - Black Forest
10/14 - San Jose, CA - Johnny V's
10/15 - Pasadena, CA - Old Towne Pub

Punk Globe:
What is in store for Moovalya for the rest of the year?

Ben:
Most likely we'll get home, enjoy the holidays with family, then start writing new material so we can do it all over again.

Punk Globe:
Do you have any Internet addresses you would like to share with the readers?

Ben:
Pick up the new record at http://www.moovalya.com or search Moovalya on spotify/pandora/youtube

Punk Globe:
Any last words for Punk Globe readers?

Ben:
Thanks for listening, see you in the pit!
