Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with Punk Globe about your AMAZING art! You ROCK!
|
Punk Globe: To start off, can you tell readers a bit about yourself? In addition to being an artist you are a successful dancer,
performing with many great artists! You lead a crazy busy life.
Katie: I definitely lead a crazy busy life but it is one I would never trade. Being an artist was always main focus until I turned 16
and took my first dance class. I was then hooked on my second art. I am very lucky to now have memories such as being a principal
dancer in Lady Gagas Just Dance music video, dancing for Beyonce, Kat Graham, Cassie, Carmen Electra, Taryn Manning, Melody Thornton,
Chris Willis, Jonte Moaning, Bobby Newberry, and more… Dance has enabled me to travel all over the world and because of that I have
become a better person and artist.
Punk Globe: You are quite deep into the pop culture and music scene. What are some of your favorite things about your lifestyle?
Katie: Growing up in New York I have always been immersed in the underground club kid fashion and art scene. I never dreamed of being
a artist I just was one. My favorite thing about my life NOW is that I absolutely love what I do and I am surrounded by beautifully
talented friends who love what they do.
Punk Globe: What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you fulfill your childhood aspirations?
Katie: Growing up I wanted to be an equestrian. I rode horses for 10 years and competed for 4. Then, I dreamed of being a basketball
player and was the captain of my high school team. Psychology was my next aspiration, being the daughter of a doctor and nurse, i was
surrounded by the medical field. All of these interests are still with me but the constant throughout them all was art. So
yesthankfully, I am living my one true aspiration.
Katie: The first piece of art i sold was in 2006, called Sliver of Silver. It was my first solo exhibition at a friends gallery in
Chelsea. It still remains one of my favorite pieces. A simple portrait in white, grey and silver acrylic of my two friends huddled
over the toilet with the bathroom door cracked open.
Punk Globe: What inspires your artistic side?
Katie: Everything inspires me. My dreams, my friends, music, books, love, loss….everything. I will see or hear something and somehow
it will incite an idea. Being a recent transplant to LA, I would say missing New York's club kid fashion scene inspires me and yet
the new immersion into Hollywood glamour also inspires me.
Punk Globe: When is the most common time for you to be in your artist/painter mode?
Katie: I am most inspired at night. A true night owl, I rarely paint or work during the day.
Punk Globe: You post art frequently on your social media pages; do you ever go through a day without sketching or painting?
Katie: This question makes me smile. I have to give credit to someone who knocked some sense into me by basically saying I was
wasting my talent and being a complete idiot. I had left a piece sitting on my studio floor for weeks without working and he urged me
to at least paint or draw something every single day. Because of him I started a new practice of drawing 3 pieces every morning while
i drink my coffee.
Katie: The longest I have spent on a painting is probably a month. It was a 10 foot banner for Ashley Roberts inspired by her
favorite McQueen scarf pattern.
Punk Globe: You often seem to use your friends as inspiration, who is your favorite person to turn into art?
Katie: I am lucky to be surrounded by interesting and inspiring friends, so yes I paint them quite often. You may recognize solo
artists Porcelain Black and Jonte Moaning, and my favorite professional dancers Sheryl Murakami, Anthony Garza, and Ramon Baynes. You
could say I sort of fall in love them and they become my muse for a while. Its impossible for me to pick a favorite. They have all
meant something uniquely special to me at different times in different ways.
Katie: I would say i need about 3 things….a good music playlist, coffee if its before 6pm some whiskey if its after, and a clear
floor.
Punk Globe: Where can art collectors purchase your pieces?
Katie: Collectors can purchase and view my pieces through social media. Primarily i post on Instagram: ROCKGLITTER but for my full
collections and commission requests contact me through my website ROCKGLITTER.com and email me at KT@ROCKGLITTER.com
Punk Globe: Can fans request art of their fave celebs?
Katie: I love all of my followers and fans and of course I always take requests!!!
Punk Globe: Thus far, what piece are you most proud of?
Katie: I guess I've done some technically tricky pieces so far… tedious details and working on insane deadlines. But the pieces I am
most proud of are the ones that have brought tears to peoples eyes. The ones i have done for clients who have lost loved ones or for
older women who no longer see themselves as beautiful.
Punk Globe: Where do you see yourself in the future?
Katie: In the future, I see myself bringing the focus back to the celebrity artist. As Andy Warhol was an undeniable brand in the
PopArt World, I want Rockglitter to be a part of Pop culture. A celebrity artist is how I see myself in the future.
Katie: To the readers I would say fill your life with positive people who push you to go for your dreams, and like me look for the
inspiration that constantly surrounds you. Do what you love and love what you do.
