Jenna Syde and the Watchers is an LA area hard rock/punk band whose current lineup include: Jenna Syde on lead vocals, Jason Dread on guitar, Jim Haas on bass, and Scandall West on drums. After listening to their 2011 debut release: "Are You A Watcher" I was surprised to learn that JATW are a relatively new incarnation, having formed in 2009. Judging by the musical symbiosis and consistency of form that these four accomplish, one would imagine a much longer gestation period. Musically, they're tight, high energy, and fluctuate between sleazy 1980s metal, garage rock, and hardcore punk. This nine song release tackles themes of excess, commodification, self realization, and disorder with insight, humor, and grace. Front-woman, Jenna Syde has an amazingly powerful vocal range that I trust could handle any musical styling from blues to death metal if she so chose. All told, "Are You A Watcher" is a definite go.
