I remember being in the dressing room chatting with Kathy Peck when I first met Jamie Oliver of The U.K. Subs ... He was very outgoing and friendly plus he kicked major ass when he played drums... After the show we all were chatting having a great time and I suggested we do an interview. They were on a tight schedule so we bid our goodbyes but have stayed in touch.. I recently asked him again if he had time to do an interview.. He was more than happy to oblige..

Punk Globe: Thanks so much for the interview Jamie. How old were you when you first decided to be a drummer?

Jamie: It's my pleasure. I was 15 and still a virgin. Playing in a band got me laid, so I stuck with it.

Punk Globe: Do you play any other instruments?

Jamie: Guitar and bass guitar. I stole a trombone from school when I was a kid, and I still have it. Never learned to play it though, having something in my mouth whilst simultaneously doing that kind of hand movement kinda made me a little uncomfortable.

Punk Globe: What was the name of your very first band Jamie?

Jamie: Malachai, inspired by Children of the Corn. We sucked.

Punk Globe: Who are some of your influences as a drummer?

Jamie: Initially it was drummers like Joey Jordison, Travis Barker, Mike Bordin, Keith Moon - You know, the usual, typical influences for a 15 year old. But as my taste diversified I found myself being influenced and inspired by the likes of Steve Gadd, Carter Beauford, Dave Garibaldi, Mark Richardson. I also love Dave Lombardo's style, fast and heavy. I'm actually still recovering from going to see Slayer last night. I got my ass kicked in the pit, they were amazing.

Punk Globe: Tell us how you hooked up with The UK Subs?

Jamie: I was in a female fronted punk n' roll band called dragSTER and we toured the UK for a while and were managed by Jah Wobble. We went on tour with Sham 69 for 5 shows. The Subs were on 2 of the dates with us. After things went tits up with dragSTER, I heard that Charlie was trying to get a hold of me and so asked a friend of mine if he had his number, which he did. Apparently Nicky was impressed with my playing and Charlie was impressed with Fiona's tits. So Nicky asked Charlie to get me in the band. And so it went from there.

Punk Globe: Charlie Harper is one of the nicest guys ever. Do you agree?

Jamie: I love Charlie, he's a great guy, very mild and good natured with manners. All qualities I value in a person. Just don't cross him when it comes to food though! He loves his food does old Charper.

Punk Globe: Can you tell us about the tour schedule with the UK Subs?

Jamie: In a year we can do up to 200 shows globally. Usually it's around the 180 mark on average. But we never know what to expect, one night we could be playing to thousands in a huge roofless theater in Mexico, and another we could be in front of 30 playing in a basement in a squat in Philly. It's very exciting.

Punk Globe: You seem to be one of the key players with the band because when we (White Trash Debutantes ) played with The UK Subs at that club in Fairfax in Marin County you were playing with Cretin. Nicky Garratt was also playing with you?

Jamie: Yeah well it hasn't always been that way. In the first place I was just doing the UK gigs, but then my schedule with the band increased and now I'm a fully fledged globetrotter, travelling the world to fight crime, drink rivers of flowing alcohol, get involved in nations' debaucheries and such things. I've gotten to be pretty good at what I do.

Punk Globe: You had to wait for a Fed Ex Delivery to be delivered because the driver had problems with the address. You had to play in Oregon that same night. Did you make it to the show in time?

Jamie: I hope someone pisses in that guys drink because his stupidity meant that not only did we not make it on time, but we crashed and all of us died on the way there. I'm now communicating with you from heaven via an Internet link with the famous medium and bullshit artist, Jon Edwards. It's not too bad here though, the weather is very nice and the cream cheese is to die again for. God says hi and not to worry about all that bible stuff, he was just having a laugh with his friends whilst high on acid and he didn't think people would actually take it seriously. I think "My bad" were his exact words.

Punk Globe: Do you have any endorsement deals Jamie?

Jamie: I'm endorsing Stagg Furia cymbals which for me are great, Remo drumheads, quality of course, and Atticus clothing. I highly recommend all of these products. I'm working on an endorsement with Durex. I'll let you know how that goes.

Punk Globe: You were telling me a story about The Duel in NYC but I did not realize that you were playing drums with them is that right?

Jamie: It was my first U.S tour and we were on tour with Red Alert. The whole thing was a disaster from start to finish, mainly because our tour manager stole all the money to fund her drug habit. The dumb bitch, we had to cancel half of the shows because of her. And then I ended up kicking the shit out of the bass player because he was being a cunt to everybody, even after we saved his stupid arse from getting arrested by the filth. So it wasn't a good tour. But having said that I did meet some really cool people who I am still friends with to this day, and I got to experience America for the first time, playing play at CBGB's before it closed down, which was a dream come true. So all was not lost.

Punk Globe; Any other bands that you play with on occasion?

Jamie: Short Bus Window Lickers, hardcore punk from London, very fast and heavy which I like. I also played on the Masons record with Lars Frederiksen and a bunch of other people - Steve Ignorant, Steve Whale, Darell Smith, Roger Miret, Becky Bondage - the list goes on. I played on the new Chemical Kaos album. Sometimes I help out other bands if they get stuck. I try to stay as active as possible.

Punk Globe: I remember Charlie telling me that he wanted to add Time Warp to your set. Have you added it yet?

Jamie: Time Warp?! Has he gone mad?!?! No, we haven't.... AND NEVER WILL!!!

Punk Globe: How many of the UK Subs albums do you play on?

Jamie: Actually I'm not on any of them, although I did record an E.P with the band called 'Warhead', and we're to record a new album later this year in SF, for which we are writing new material.

Punk Globe: Do you enjoy playing the Rebellion Festival?

Jamie: Rebellion is for me the best punk festival in the world. So yes, definitely. If you haven't been, sell your arse to go to the next one.

Punk Globe: Tell us about some of your favorite shows that you have played so far?

Jamie: The Vans Warped tour was a blast, although I didn't really like any of the bands to be honest apart from the Exposed and the bands sharing the stage we were playing on. They were all generic pop-punk emo screamo bollocks who were desperate to be the next big "something-core" band, twat-core I call it. But the punk legends stage, formerly known as the Oldskool stage - I guess they didn't want to call everyone old - was the best stage, with The Adicts, Total Chaos, DOA, Channel 3, Fishbone and obviously ourselves. That was cool. We all hung out together and watched each others' shows every day, drinking cold beers in the hot California sun. AHHHHHHH.... I came home looking like a Mexican after that tour. Wacken Open Air was cool too, the biggest open air heavy metal Festival in the world, and we were the only punk band on it! I went down into the pit and got covered in blood for GWAR!! We also played a really really cool show in Switzerland which I'll never forget. We turned up to play an illegal festival in the centre of Zurich, and as we were getting ready to go onstage a whole army of riot police arrived, all suited and booted, looking ready for a full scale riot. And we thought we weren't going to get to play. So the promoter said to the guy in charge "Are you going to let UK Subs play?". And he replied "We've all come to see them!". So we had a riot squad as personal security that day. And there was I thinking all cops were dicks!

Punk Globe: Who are some of your favorite bands to play with Jamie?

Jamie: The Adicts, Misfits, the Vibrators, Rancid, the Damned, Texas Terri Bomb. There are so many. We played with the Ruts shortly before Paul Fox's unfortunate passing. The show was great and I was so happy to share the stage with Henry Rollins who was singing for them.

Punk Globe: How was Charlie's recent Birthday Bash?

Jamie: Mental, I played my first ever solo acoustic guitar show and I was crapping my pants about it, I got so nervous I couldn't even hold my guitar let alone play the damn thing. But it was fun, I'll definitely do it again. I had another 3 shows to do on that night too. Then we all got wasted. Fun times.

Punk Globe: Do you have any plans for your upcoming Birthday?

Jamie: A giant kinky sex party! Umm drinking I guess. Some friends of mine are coming to London from Aylesbury to play a show with their band UK Vomit the night before. They're shit, but fun to hang around with. So I'll drag a bunch of mates down to see them and then take it from there I suppose.

Jamie: If you decide to play a game of Quidditch like in Harry Potter, the first team to catch the Snitch wins the game regardless of the score, so forget about scoring goals and send your team chasing after the Snitch. You'll catch the little bastard and win the game in no time!
