MARLA STANDING OWL told Portland the TV station KGW that she picked the passenger up at the Duniway Hotel the evening of September 6. He was drunk and had a problem with how the Lyft app had entered his destination.“He said something, that referred to me, you’re nothing but a man,” she said. “I told him I don’t need bigotry in my car, and that’s when he snapped.” While she was driving, he hit her several times in the head and neck. My long time friend JOHN TELFER who used to manage the best and original version of THE JOE JACKSON band is living there now.... I asked BEN to go but he wanted to go to The Hyatt but he gave me his room number in case I wanted to hang out with him..I ended up going to the party and overheard someone say that I had scared THE CARS from attending.. I called BEN on the loudspeaker and told him I wanted to come to the hotel... He paid my cab fare and that was the beginning of a long friendship... I got to know the band and find out that they were all great people..... I know that RIC'S passing was hard on BEBE as he produced and the band played on her first album on Rhino Records.. I also am sad as my pal BEN ORR passed away from cancer and now RIC...I am sure they are now blessed away from all the pain and pressures that life has to offer..
