Getting To Know The Talented

Dave Aidan

Interview By: Ginger Coyote

Maria Sadie Duarte showcased an acting reel of one of the stars of her new film DMus... It was a young Latin actor named Dave Aidan... We began conversing and I asked Dave for an interview... I hope you all enjoy.

PUNK GLOBE:
Give the readers some background about yourself Dave?

Dave Aidan:
My interest in acting begins in 2010 with the theater company I joined: "La Trouppe Inestable". It was then when I started my career as an actor, taking several courses in performance, body language, voice, etc., and I also made several short films for some prestigious schools and colleges in Madrid (Spain). Apart from this, I am also a singer and I work as a camp monitor for children in my spare time. I am currently studying drama at the School of Performing Arts Cuarta Pared, in Madrid (Spain).

PUNK GLOBE:
How old were you when you realized you wanted to be an actor?

Dave Aidan:
Since I was a little boy, that is, when I was about four years old, I started showing dancing and singing skills. Actually, I remember winning dance competitions when I lived in Ecuador - the country I was born in. I always said that I wanted to be a singer! Then, I starred in many short plays at school. When I was 15 or 16, I went through this stage of my life where I didn't know who I wanted to be. But later on, I made up my mind and devoted myself to my passion and finally this year, I started studying drama at this school to pursue my acting career.

PUNK GLOBE:
Who are some of the actors that you most admire?

Dave Aidan:
Without a doubt, the actor I admire the most is Johnny Depp. I think he rawks and has a great acting career. I'd love to work with him someday. Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton are so great working together as this amazing trio of artists. I also like Charles Chaplin, Mario Moreno ( Cantinflas ), Marion Cotillard, Al Pacino, Antonia San Juan and Audrey Tautou, among others.

PUNK GLOBE:
How did you get your first break in acting Dave?

Dave Aidan:
I remember that one day, a mate who was doing theatre asked me if I wanted to participate in this musical. I didn't like the idea at first, but as I love singing and dancing, I told him I would gladly do it. From the moment I set foot on stage, the magic of the stage got hold of me. I began my acting careeer with the musical Mamma Mia, which the company La Trouppe Inestable presented in 2011. I accepted a spot in the ensemble. Later, I was lucky enough to film a teaser for a pilot series, La Cantera. But of course, my big project is DMus, directed by Sadie Duarte and Steve Royall.

PUNK GLOBE:
Did you do much theater in school?

Dave Aidan:
Yeah!! In fact, I owe a lot to my school I.E.S La Arboleda (Alcorcon-Madrid). Thanks to them, I started to discover this wonderful world. The first play I performed with them was the musical Mamma Mia. For five years, we have presented several plays with La Trouppe Inestable and our director Juan Carlos Gonzalez-Mohino, such as Yerma by Federico Garcia Lorca, La Boda de los Pequenos Burgueses by Bertolt Brecht, Grease The Musical, Orfeo & Euridice, Dios by Woody Allen and our last big project, Fando & Lis, Sobre la Incapacidad de Amar, by Fernando Arrabal, a play we are showing right now and which we'd like to take on tour. Fando & Lis is a critique not only of domestic violence, but of violence in general.

PUNK GLOBE:
Tell us about your very first film?

Dave Aidan:
My first movie is DMus. As I said before, DMus, directed by Sadie Duarte and Steve Royall, is about a group of artists from different backgrounds that gather together in a theatre to rehearse for a casting. Through a dreamlike atmosphere, they talk about their dreams, fears and frustrations. Thanks to MT Producciones , we've been able to make this project happen. And of course, thanks also to my wonderful castmates and all the people that made DMus possible. I had this great opportunity to work with great actors like Pablo Escamilla, Adriana Gil, Naira Rod, Albert Lopez Murtra, Martin Maez, Miguel Diaz, Miguel Morales, Adrian Riquelme, Rafa Higuera, Jon Gonzalez and Lara Baladron. They all rawk!

PUNK GLOBE:
Do you have a manager and or agent that represents you?

Dave Aidan:
Yes, I do. My agent is Marco Labrador, (Management Agency Kailash). This is the web page: http://www.kailash.es/es/actores/det/dave-aidan/16-a-20

PUNK GLOBE:
How many films have you appeared in?

Dave Aidan:
Right now, I've only appeared in this movie and in five short films: Chicas Smartphone, Operacion Sonrisa, YeVe, A por ellos, and, Sabes bailar salsa I'm still starting my acting career, but I'm working and studying hard to have the chance to star in many other films. PUNK GLOBE:
What is your favorite role that you have done?

Dave Aidan:
On stage, I would say that the role I enjoyed the most was Orfeo in Orfeo & Euridice. It was wonderful to discover this character, and I always say that I have an Orfeo in me. On the other hand, I really liked to play the role of this romantic Latin guy in the short film YeVe and the mystical Mauro in DMus.

PUNK GLOBE:
From your acting reel it seems that you have portrayed all sorts of roles. From being bullied to romantic leads. Tell us about that?

Dave Aidan:
Many people are always telling me that I'm very versatile and so I can play many different roles. But it's true it is more difficult for me to play a comic role 'cause I'm very dramatic - and I love it. Having said this, I really like romantic roles. I enjoy the tender guy inside me. I guess it's because I don't usually show this romantic side of me in real life.

PUNK GLOBE:
Tell us how you got involved with DMus?

Dave Aidan:
I met Sadie Duarte about two years ago. We arranged a meeting with other actors, and then Sadie told us she had a project in mind. We've been in touch with each other since then. When she moved out to Madrid, we met again and she said she had thought of a role for me in DMus. I was overjoyed at the news and of course, both the offer and the project were of interest to me, so I agreed from the start.

PUNK GLOBE:
Tell us a bit about your role in the film?

Dave Aidan:
I play Mauro. He is a humble, quiet guy, both charming and loving, kind of an angel. Thanks to his music and the way he behaves, he has the power to "heal" and make people feel better.

PUNK GLOBE:
So DMus your first musical that you have appeared in?

Dave Aidan:
Yes, of course. DMus is my first musical film in English.

PUNK GLOBE:
I understand that you are a musician also?

Dave Aidan:
Well, I wouldn't say I'm 100% musician. I learn more and more everyday. I like singing, acting, writing songs with my guitar... Ever since I was I child, I've always enjoyed singing and now I'm learning new ways to improve my knowledge.

PUNK GLOBE:
Do you have a band?

Dave Aidan:
Not so long ago, I was the backup singer and vocalist of a band here in Madrid, but I decided to quit and concentrate more on my acting career. Yet, I've never stopped singing. I like grabbing my guitar and finding new melodies, rhythms, words ... Now I'm in the process of writing my own songs. Maybe in the future, my dream of being a great singer will be fulfilled. I enjoy meeting my family and friends, and just sing and play my guitar.

PUNK GLOBE:
What style of music do you play?

Dave Aidan:
When I was singing with my band, we used to play Latin music such as salsa, cumbia, merengue, etc. But I like singing pop music, rock, ballads and soul much more.

PUNK GLOBE:
Who are some of your favorite bands?

Dave Aidan:
I have so many favorite bands and singers. I really like different kinds of music, rhythms, innovation, but I'm also a classic guy. My favorite singers are: Ricardo Arjona, Marc Anthony, Bruno Mars, Joaquin Sabina, Christina Aguilera, Alaska, Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse... etc. And my favorite bands are: The Rolling Stones, Fito & Fitipaldis, Cold Play, Queen, Mana, The Beatles... and more!

PUNK GLOBE:
Do you have any of your original music in DMus?

Dave Aidan:
No, the song that I sing in DMus, "Today", was originally written by the Spanish band ChocoLat.

Any last words for Punk Globe readers?

Dave Aidan:
