Crashed Out have
been going for a fair few years now playing their own brand of Street
Punk Rock N Roll. After receiving a couple of their releases last year
and meeting their guitarist Lee it was about time I caught up with
these guys. Anyway I sent off these questions to their vocalist Chris
and here´s what he had to say.
Punk
Globe: First off can you introduce Crashed Out to our readers?
CW: Crashed Out are: Lee Wright (guitar) Geordie Brown (bass) Chris
Wright (vocals) Decca Wade (drums)
Punk Globe: You´ve been around for years now and I believe
only one album and a few promos to date so have you got anything
planned for 2006?
CW: The band formed in 1996 we have 3 full length albums and a self
released 7 track ep plus we have tracks on loads of comps. Ok our
first album: This is our music, was released in 1996, 1997 our first
single: Fight back, our second album: Here now and real, in 1998 then
the break came in 2000 Gary then vocals had his lot and Mark the
drummer also chucked the towel in. so 2001 the new line up was formed
with Chris on vocals and Decca on drums 2002 and we released ourselves
the: Back for more, 7 track ep. 2004 we released a split single with
The Templars, from USA. In 2005 the brand new 15 track album: Pearls
Before Swine, was released by Captain Oi records. As i have said we
have had loads n loads of different tracks included on various comps
some that spring to mind are Punk in Sunderland, 1,2 and 3 (Stretch
Records) Addicted to Oi (Captain Oi records).
Punk Globe: So what inspires you lyric wise?
CW: Life.
Punk Globe: As I said you´ve been around a fair few years so
any good memories to share?
CW: I could go on forever here, something always seems the happen when
were on the road some good some bad and some crazy but heres a few
things for you, We once had Jarra Elvis on stage with us (he is a
local bloke who impersonates the king very very badly) well we have a
song out called freakshow (all about him and his like) and we got him
on the stage to perform with us for this song he had all the gear on
as well, the crowd just went mad it was funny as fuck you´d think they
had seen the real Elvis, girls on stage trying to kiss him and blokes
trying to shake his hand, and just generally mobbing him. a bouncer
had to escort him off stage. great fun.On our first trip to America on
our first night there we saw a shooting a gang banging right outside
our hotel. What made it more bizarre was a bloke trying to sell us
theme park tickets as this was happening. Cops were running all over
the place kids on the ground with guns to there heads
the
lot. We said to the bloke you are trying to sell us tickets and a guy
has just been shot dead 20 feet away???? to which the bloke says ´Heyyy
this is LA people get shot every night, now do you want the dam
tickets or not!´ Fucking bizarre ´eh´?!! We have played loads of great
gigs one in Rochdale was in a youth club full of kids going fucking
mental it was great a right good laugh we had with them and a few
piggy back fights Decca got a shoe right in the mush. Our charity gig
in Jarrow was brilliant we raised £5000 for a baby intensive care unit
that one was special and great. Lately we have been playing & touring
with Angelic Upstarts and had some fucking great laughs including: the
Lubeck incident, shmall boy, humpy back cunt, the mystery of the
missing merch and the Norwich jaw breaker ´ha ha ha ha´ all will be
revealed one day.
Punk Globe: Two of you are brothers so do you ever come to
blows regards the band?
CW: Well we have had our differences but that´s understandable, we
have clashed a couple of times in the past but we just get on with it.
Punk Globe: How come you´ve always chosen to remain Non
Political baring in mind you coming from the North East of England
where the British Govt have done a lot of shit to the Working Class
people there?
CW: We don´t ram our thoughts down peoples throats, we have our bit
moan about certain things but mainly we just wanna play our own style
of street rock n roll. Our new album has some very different topics on
there I think it could appeal to lots of different people. Some tracks
are fast angry protest, some slow heart felt, some fun and some
drinking anthems. As I have said we just do our own thing our way take
it or leave it.
Punk Globe: Lee and Decca also play for The Upstarts so I
presume they must be totally fucked when you all gig together?
CW: Yeah, but I think the buzz keeps them going Decca knows the stuff
like the back of his hand as he was an original upstart years ago so
that helps.
Punk Globe: If you could play with 5 bands all on the same
stage who would they be and why?
CW: Metallica for the crowds, The Dickies for the fun, Rancid for the
exposure, Sex Pistols for obvious reasons, Angelic Upstarts cos we
would like to share that with the rest of them.
Punk Globe: Do you think you´d get more gigs if you didn´t
have the ´Oi!´ tag associated with Crashed Out?
CW: Not sure, we don´t really label ourselves, we call our sound:
Street Rock n Roll, some call it punk, hardcore, streetpunk or Oi! We
have played with loads of different bands such as SLF, The Damned,
Girlschool, Cockney Rejects, Anti No-where League, Uk Subs. As well as
bands playing: Ska, Rock, Psycho Billy even Blues. We have played punk
shows, Motorbike rallies, Youth clubs, Birthday bashes and festivals
etc etc. If people like our stuff be it punks skins rockers bikers or
even housewives great thats what its all about.
Punk Globe: Anything you´d like to add?
CW: Cheers for the interest in Crashed Out.
Thanks to Chris Wright for doing this interview. Hopefully
I´ll catch up to see this band live in 2006. They really are one of
the better bands associated with Oi!/Street Punk so go on give them a
listen.
