Punk Globe: How is the punk scene in Spain? Where are you from?
Born To Hate: We are from in and around Barcelona. We can' t really talk about the whole punk scene in Spain, 'cos we are more linked to the hardcore scene. In the hardcore scene it is a bit difficult at the moment to get people to go to concerts, especially small ones, it is more difficult to organize gigs etc. Some years ago there was a lot more going on. However, there are enthusiastic people who are doing a really good job and who make it worthwhile. And there are really good friendships.
Punk Globe: How did you guys get together?
Born To Hate: We went to a casting....... hahaha, just joking. We met, we became friends, and as we had the same music taste and all were already playing in bands, we decided to found a new one... the only band member who is not from the original line-up is the bass player, who joined us a couple of years ago.
Punk Globe: Who are your influences?
Born To Hate: Madball, Death Threat, 100 demons, Terror, Blood for blood (before...)…
Punk Globe: Born to Hate sound like and angry band. How did you come up with your band name?
Born To Hate: It is taken from the chorus of the first song we played, a cover of Death Threat. And yes, it sounds like an angry band 'cos we are tough girls. Just kidding, really we are “buena gente”
Born To Hate: Well yes, but we chose the name before knowing that the songs were going to be in Spanish, and then we had already got attached to it...
Here we are used to listening to songs in English, and sometimes it sounds strange when we translate the names and lyrics into Spanish. Back then the natural thing to do was to choose a band name in English, but if we had to name the band again now, who knows… Punk Globe: Tell the readers about the band members and one intriguing fact about each band member.
Born To Hate: Laura is the singer. She loves Mozart and teaches music to children. Then, when she goes on stage, she transforms to a “chilladora” (a screamer)
Núria is the drummer. Today it’s her birthday! Also, she is a psychologist, if you have any problems, you can see her in her office… but keep in mind that she plays in a band called Born to Hate…. Elena is the guitarist. One of her passions is to perform traditional Catalan dancing, some of them with batons. Sometimes, she also does Irish dancing. And if you show her the traditional dance of your city, she will also like it! Mali is the bass player. She has a lot of jobs… she is an economist, electrician, sustainable builder, translator, researcher, cyclist… Born To Hate: “No tengo el chichi pa farolillos”. Which means, I am not up for a party
Punk Globe: I loved Romper La Baraja. Are you guys working on any new material?
Born To Hate: We are working on it! Currently we have no gigs lined up and are composing new songs.
Punk Globe: Any direction you are heading music-wise?
Born To Hate: Our new style is “a capella mobile phone recordings” (in private only)
Born To Hate: A guy we found at the casting... hahaha
actually, all of us together. It has taken us a long time, and we are very sorry about that! Some long summer holidays got in the way… but we have had a lot of fun answering the questions.
Punk Globe: Anything else you would like to add?
Born To Hate: Don’t believe anything that whoever answered this interview has said, we don’t know him at all………
Punk Globe would like to thank Born To Hate for the fun interview with Jones Vigilante
