Bobby Schubenski:
Co- Founder Of BlackCraft Cult
Interview By: Lisa Lunney
The infamous Bobby Schubenski recently chatted with Punk Globe about his musical roots, keen eye for fashion and the future of BlackCraft Cult. Fans of HIM’s Ville Valo will recognize BlackCraft’s Death Card shirt as the one Ville chose to wear on stage for the Rock Allegiance Tour! Bobby ROCKS!
Punk Globe:
Thank you for taking the time to chat with Punk Globe! You have many ties to the music industry, can you tell readers about some of the projects you have been involved in?
Bobby Schubenski:
Oh wow it's almost to the point that I forget I played for and worked for so many amazing bands some of them involving, Eighteen visions, Bleeding through, bless the fall, escape the fate, Combichrist.
Punk Globe:
What motivated you into pursuing music? Was it always a dream?
Bobby Schubenski:
Yeah ever since I was 13 and I first saw Marilyn Manson play at Ozzfest it was something that just drew me in… How different he was from everything going on and how much he didn't care I saw that and said yup I want to do music.
Punk Globe:
Who are some of your favorite musicians?
Bobby Schubenski:
That is a tough one. But to be honest my favorite musician and one of the biggest reasons I even got into music was because of Marilyn Manson's bass player at the time…. Tim Skold he was one of my biggest influences…Its such a trip now because me and Tim have become good friends over the years.
Punk Globe:
What was the first concert you ever attended?
Bobby Schubenski:
Limp Bizkit family values tour!
Punk Globe:
What inspired you to create BlackCraft Cult alongside Jim Somers?
Bobby Schubenski:
We wanted to create a clothing line that we were both passionate about and getting a positive message about believing in yourself out to the masses as well as having a little dark side twist to it.
Punk Globe:
What was the first design for BlackCraft?
Bobby Schubenski:
We started the company with 3 designs but the first one that we came up with to even inspire us was the upside down cross with "create your own future" on it.
Punk Globe:
Currently, you have a storefront in Orange, California, are there plans to spread the brand internationally?
Bobby Schubenski:
Yeah that is the ultimate goal would love a spot in Germany. I feel like Germans hate god :)
Punk Globe:
Since the birth of BlackCraft there have been many copycats, how do you keep your designs fresh and unique?
Bobby Schubenski:
Just keep doing what we feel in our guts is right and to be honest so many people write me and say that but I never even look at what others are doing to focused on all the positives we got going on at the moment. I feel if we cared about what other brands are doing we wouldn't be able to keep our designs unique.
Punk Globe:
When envisioning the brand, did you ever dream it would be such a success in such a short time?
Bobby Schubenski:
Honestly I thought we would be were we are at in like 3 years not only one year! But to be honest Jim and me are on the same wavelength of things and just doing things every day to get us to our goals!
Punk Globe:
How do you ignore all the nasty comments some of your designs receive?
Bobby Schubenski:
Too busy looking at all the positive ones.
Punk Globe:
What's your favorite part about conceptualizing a design?
Bobby Schubenski:
I love how Jim and me brainstorm on a little idea then it turns into a t-shirt, which turns into about 4 other design ideas.
Punk Globe:
Any new collabs in the works?
Bobby Schubenski:
Yeah we have a big new collab coming up in the works! Can’t announce it just yet!! But it's going to be awesome.
Punk Globe:
Can you tell us about your favorite little lady, Miss Lydia?
Bobby Schubenski:
My daughter? Yeah she is currently getting her nails done and having a spa day…typical… She is orange county's biggest diva I hear… Also trying to get her on "The Real Housewives Of Orange County" TV show fingers crossed!
Punk Globe:
You have such a positive outlook on life. This outlook has inspired thousands, how does this make you feel? Knowing you are making a positive difference in others lives?
Bobby Schubenski:
It's funny you ask this…. I just had a conversation about this with someone… Even I have bad days…. everyone does... Its life…but when I log on to Facebook or check my mail and look at the message the kids write back to me it inspires me and lifts me up so much and sometimes it gives me that little extra kick and then I’m right back on track again!! But at the end of the day I feel so privileged that kids follow me and write me and say Jim and me changed their lives or saved their lives. It's great to me its starting to feel like BLACKCRAFTCULT is more than just a clothing brand its becoming a lifestyle for kids and something for kids to be apart of …which is exactly what we want!
Punk Globe:
Any closing thoughts?
Bobby Schubenski:
Thank you so much for taking the time to do an interview on me. I'm always looking forward to doing these!! But just wanted to say to anyone reading this that supports my clothing or me line. Thank you so much for the continued support and love.
