The Crazy Squeeze
and Lost Cat
at Permanent Records (Old Cafe Nela),
Los Angeles, CA Sept. 15th, 2022
Show Review By: Gabriel Johns

Man, got to Permanent Records, the old Cafe Nela over on Cypress, Cypress Park! Was starving and got a couple of tacos next door, brought them to them bar, got a drink and devoured my dinner, threw back the drink.  Yes, much needed after a long day of work.  I Came to see The Crazy Squeeze.  I found the place was packed!  Wall to wall hipsters, to cool for school kind of a scene.  Some glamsters which I’m always happy to see.  Bumped into Black Mambas.  They gave me the skinny on their next show.  Shot the bull with our boy Johnny Witmer (singer/guitar player for Crazy Squeeze).   Quite the gentleman our boy Johnny is.  Got to chat with Nico Bones, he was playing with The Killer hearts which I didn’t catch them, unfortunately.  Dirty Ed made the scene as well as Emil Erdinger!  Always good running into Double E.

But let’s talk about The Crazy Squeeze!  From Johnny Witmer’s swagger, slinging that Les Paul like a well-hung extremity, to Super Legend Frankie “rock n roll is my life” Delmane’s young boy’s charm, Dat T Ngo’s “I might be too cool for this band” to Shaun Clarke “I just like playing the drums”, you can tell these fine gent are in it for the sake of ball busting rock n roll!!!  And, I, for one, am sure glad of it!  I’ve seen Crazy Squeeze quite a few times in the past but JEEZ, they blew me away tonight!

They opened with “Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go”, a fucking excellent rocker that instantly had the crowd moving, sung by our boy Frankie!    Next, “Hard Livin’ Man”!!! Man, I had to pick myself up off the floor with this one as it hit me like a ton of bricks!!!  OFF THE CHARTS, I tell ya, a really good rock n roll voice by Johnny and his guitar playing cuts through to the jugular!!!  Soooo good!  The next song that grabbed by the, eh-hmm, you know, was “Let’s Go Down” sung by Frankie and man, a rocker that will have you falling out your chair (if yer sitting) or will have you slamming against anything and everything in a rock n roll frenzy!!!  “Blind Truth” and “Savior Of The Streets” were killer tunes, actually every song in their set were electronic shock sensations, one song after the other in the whole set!  They ended with “I Need A Witness”, a Cock Sparrerish rocker that’ll singe your eyelashes. Yea . . . that good!  My reaction after their set?  FUCK YEAH!!!!!!

Johnny’s quite the charmer on stage and is really great at making everyone feel that they’re part of the show!  Quite the wit that Johnny boy, keeps the crowd in stitches! AND the way he works the neck on his Gibson, shucks, ya just wanna scream MORE!  Frankie has the savoir faire of a rock god and his rhythm guitar drives the band righteously.  Dat looks as good as his playing which is quite good, at that!  Pounding bass lines adding to the thick of it all!  And last but not least Shaun keeps the timing tight and together making all the boys sound fantastic!!  Really great tasty drum licks coming from him!  Check out their YouTube vids and buy their records!!

As stated in the first paragraph, I was early to the show and glad I was cuz as I caught the opener Lost Cat!  Geez, these tiny girls belted out some good loud punk rock!!!  I was very impressed with their good songs, good vocals, great musicianship, and a devil may care attitude.  The crowd went wild for LOST CAT!!  I hear there’s a good buzz on the street on these three girls.  I, myself, knew little about them but I want to know more of their great sound.  Just a great devil may care dynamic and great songs with great vocals, good chord progressions. For just a small three piece their sound is quite LOUD!!!!!  Excellent job, Kiki, Yaz, and Kelly!!!!!  Follow them on Instagram @_lostcat
