Cosmicoma:
An Out Of This World Interview
With
Betty Moon
Interview By: Robert B

Punk Globe: So we've navigated a wild 2020 since last speaking, how are things Betty Moon?

Betty Moon: I'm good over here, typing out this interview outside while looking at the ocean and soaking in the good vibes. Last year was crazy, but it fueled a ton of creativity and it led to a new album rather quickly. I've been focused on kicking ass, making music, producing, working out and living a great life.

Punk Globe: What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, how is Cosmicoma different from your other albums?

Betty Moon: I wrote the album during an interesting time, as we all can relate to. I got a bit nostalgic while at the same time having that creative excitement to make something new again. I was playing a ton of guitar, messing with tones and revisiting some of my favorite rock bands of past decades. This made Cosmicoma a bit more guitar-driven than say the past few Betty Moon albums. I don't think people want to hear the same thing over and over, unless it's Slayer of course right??

Punk Globe: If I pointed a gun to your head and said "Name your favorite LA band!" who would it be??

Betty Moon: I'd have to say Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan has always been entertaining and even though he said he was quitting music when I met him backstage @ Somersault Festival a hundred years ago, he seems to have maintained a great career. I know musicians can be fickle sometimes, but I'm glad he held on to the dream. Can't say that about many LA artists from that era right? I appreciate his unique voice but strong hold on melody, great ideas and killer songwriting. Some bands just stand the test of time, just like Betty Moon, ha ha

Punk Globe: How about LA Punk Rock? Any winners here?

Betty Moon: How about Fear? (so hard to choose) Lee Ving and his crew were musicians I admired greatly and I knew they were icons of Los Angeles punk. I didn't grow up here but have dreamed my entire life of calling LA home, which I finally did over 10 years back. I knew Fear and so many punk rock groups out here defined a generation of rebels and misfits. I know a lot of that rubbed off on me in addition to the great rock n' roll I grew up with.

Punk Globe: What's your favorite track on Cosmicoma?

Betty Moon: "My Only One" is my favorite so far, but that can change depending on the day and mood. Music is awesome like that, it speaks to you in the moment it's meant to. It's a little different when you actually wrote the song, but I think because it's a part of you and it's crazy to realize your own music connects just as hard as other favorite bands.

Punk Globe: What's next for Betty Moon in 21'?

Betty Moon: I'm ready to make a ton of content for Cosmicoma and have more ideas drafted out than I can handle. I'm not playing a ton of shows as of late (obviously) but I can keep pumping out great music and videos better than most. Besides that, gearing up for some travel and other adventures to keep Betty Moon on her toes. Thanks for doing this interview!
